The children will be given ample opportunities to explore and acquire the process of learning in a fun and safe way. Children will learn to interact either on a one-to-one basis with the teacher, small group learning with peers and large group activities. Children will grow and be nurtured in our school with the appropriate aptitude, self-monitoring and motivating strategies to face the many challenges of their life. We welcome parents to volunteer and be a part in our programme!

The Kinders Programme:

1. Language & Literacy

Children will learn to language through whole language approach and phonetic awareness. Strategies will be engaged to teach children to read, listen, speak, write and comprehend what he is learning in systematic and constructive ways. Stories, poems, rhymes, songs and music will be the modes of learning where children learn language. As our school provides bilingual programme, Chinese will be introduced to children too. Word games, card games and audio tapes will be used for teaching children Chinese. Internal therapist will be participating in the Programmes for children who have delay in speech and language.

2. Math and Problem Solving

Children will learn Math and problem solving skills with concrete manipulatives as well as visual and verbal cues. Children understand the concept of Math through hands on learning such as multi-sensorial activities, before teaching them the abstract form. Through constant problem solving either on a personal project basis or during small group discussion, children become confident in their own ability.

3. Social/ Emotional

Children are empowered with the autonomy to make choices during the learning centers and active interactions between peers and teachers. Children will learn the strategies, such as turn taking and sharing, to solve problems encountered in collaborative play. They will also learn to express feelings in words or gestures. Children are encouraged to participate in group routines to encourage modeling of appropriate social behaviours in a required setting. Children will be introduced to the social norms and rules of different environmental settings example in the library, restaurant etc. All these skills will be taught prior to the actual setting or event, so as to equip them in advance with the necessary skills and also to promote confidence in the child. Our school nurtures the children in a warm and loving environment where children will form positive images of themselves and others in order to build strong blocks of human relationships. Self help skills will be taught to the children so that they are able to perform daily routines independently.

4. Gross Motor & Fine Motor

The children develop their gross motor skills (locomotor skills, non-locomotor skills) through games, outdoor activities and gym activities. There are water play, sand play, multi-sensory balls, slides, tricycles and many fun filled activities that the children can work on during the outdoor activities. There is also a mini nursery for children to grow their own fruits and vegetables. Children will enhance their fine motor skills and eye hand co-ordination through activities such as painting, threading, pegging etc. Our school encourages children to create models and artworks from different textured materials. These creative representations of the children’s works reflect the children’s present level of development.

YOUNG SOCCER PROGRAMME

Kits4Kids Special School kicks off with the young soccer programme for children from 3 to 7 years old. This programme is conducted by a professionally trained physical educator for young children. In this programme, individual child’s physical progress will be monitored so that the coach will be able to implement the appropriate activities for the child. It is a great programme to teach children the gross motor co-ordination skills, and social skills in terms of collaborative play.

5. Art & Music Appreciation

Children will be exposed to art and music appreciation. This enables children to learn about the arts as well as the different cultures and music of the world. Music & movement will be a daily routine in the programme. Children will learn to express their emotions through different musical instruments. Art work of children will be displayed giving each child a sense of pride for the creative works that they had accomplished. Children are also encouraged to explore different media to express their thoughts and feelings.

6. Science & Nature Awareness

Children will be introduced to science in fun and experiential ways such as cookery sessions and experiments. Nature awareness allows children to learn about their surrounding environment. We also organize regular field trips for children and parents.

JUNIOR PROGRAMME

The Kis4Kids Special School Junior course of Study is a unique course of study where a student with mild disabilities may complete to graduate with a Kits4Kids Special School Certificate of Achievement. The Junior Course of Study is an outgrowth of Kits4Kids Foundation Education Systems (EIPIC / Integrated Kindergarten / CARE program / Senior program / College). The following is a description of the Junior Course of Study. Plans are on the way to parallel the course of study to international programs for further academic progression.

The Junior Course of Study is intended to meet the needs of a small group of students with disabilities who need a adapted curriculum that focuses on both academic and life-skills for independent living. The vast majority of students with disabilities will complete one of the other three modules of study with the use of accommodations, modifications, supplemental aids and services as needed. The Junior Course of Study is an adapted standard course of study consisting of 6 courses in English, mathematics, science, social studies, moral studies, art including physical education. Junior Course of Study is designed to be self-paced for the student yet competencies are societal benchmarked for authentic independence at school, work or home.

  • Students are also required to complete technical education credits, healthful living and electives, as needed to complete local graduation requirements. Portfolios can be used for students with moderate disabilities that fulfill the academic requirements of the courses.

  • The IEP Team, which includes parents and the student, makes recommendations as to the appropriateness of the Junior Course of Study for a particular student based on his/her post-school transition needs and goals. Final selection of the Junior Course of Study is by student and parent choice.

  • Students may be required to pass an exit exam depending on the transition needs. However, each student must have specified in their IEP the computer or technology skills to be mastered required by the next stage of progression for transition.

  • Student can be enrolled at chronological aged 7 and should graduate at chronological aged 12. However, assessment and evaluation of the student will provide a better insertion in to Junior Course of Study. There is no limitation to the chronological age for graduation however it must be collectively agreed for authentic independence for the student.

  • Students facing difficulties in Kits4Kids Junior program (7 – 12) / Senior program (12 – 18) are recommended for transition into Kits4Kids Special School CARE program (10 – 18). This is in-line with the overall developmental progression developed based on both international curriculum and local requirements.
